Looking for ways to cut back on toxins in your home? Here is another great DIY way to do just that! I have been using this recipe for the past 10+ years in my high efficiency LG Washer without any issue. I typically double the recipe below and make laundry soap every 3 months or so. A single recipe will typically produce 2 gallons of detergent (usage is maybe 1/4 cup per load).
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Washing Soda
- 1/2 cup Borax
- 1/3 bar Fels naptha Soap grated finely
- Any desired essential oils
- Water
Instructions
- Place 6 cups of water in a pot on the stove along with grated soap, washing soda and borax at a medium temperature.
- Warm and stir until everything is dissolved and liquified.
- Pour 4 cups of hot water into a 5 gallon bucket.
- Add in liquified soap mixture and stir.
- Add 1 gallon and 6 cups of additional water.
- Stir and leave alone for 24 hrs to allow it to gel.
- Once ‘gelled’ you can stir to break it up and incorporate better.
- Bottle and utilize as needed.
*I have found these containers to be the most helpful for holding my DIY laundry soap.
