What is our immune system
We are constantly being challenged by our exposure to germs and organisms that we come across, whether we are swallowing them, breathing them in, or they’re living on our skin. In actuality, it is our immune system that is continually working to protect us and keep us healthy. That doesn’t mean that it’s broken if we get sick, it just means that the body is having to work a bit harder to fight off the current attack.
Furthermore, our immune system is a network of organs, cells and proteins within the body that work together to fight off an attack – any foreign invaders such as parasites, fungi, bacteria and viruses.
Most people don’t pay any attention to their immune system until it’s faced with a problem or illness. However, there are a lot of different ways to support the body before it gets to this stage.
General Ways to help the immune system work efficiently
- Get enough sleep, and good sleep
- Manage your stress levels – stress and a lack of sleep can increase the body’s cortisol levels which ultimately, can suppress the immune system
- Eat the rainbow – get a variety of nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies in
- Consider probiotics – these help balance out the body’s gut bacteria (remember your gut is the body’s 2nd brain)
- Enjoy the sunshine – 15 minutes a day will give your body a good boost of vitamin D, it’s especially helpful if you can get out in the morning sun before noon (it helps the pineal gland regulate night/day for better sleep)
- Add extra garlic and onion to your food – these are antimicrobial
- Increase your vitamin c intake
- Try herbals – elderberry (fights colds, flu, allergies and inflammation), Astragalus (disease fighter), ginger (breaks down toxins), ginseng (fights infection), echinacea (respiratory issues)
- Use your Essential Oils (myrrh and oregano will work specifically to kill off foreign invaders – dilute as they can be hot)
- Colloidal silver – one drop internally is used as a preventative due to its microbial effect
- Avoid eating – this allows the body to solely fight off invaders without also having to use energy to digest food
