Hey friends! As you all know, chapped lips can be excruciating. Consequently, we will be making the best natural and healthy Shea butter lip balm with SPF. You are in complete control of the end result and the ingredients!

What causes chapped lips?

The first thing to be mindful of is your level of hydration. Lips chap when there is a lack of moisture. Secondly, make sure you are eating good healthy fats. These help to internally lube up the body. The time of the year can also play a factor.

Why is ChapStick bad for you?

Some brands of lip balm are created with petroleum-based products. This typically provides a toxic barrier that inhibits the skin from breathing. Which ultimately means more toxins build up. The salve doesn’t actually absorb or penetrate the lips.

How can we make it ourselves?

Some oils naturally have sun protecting factors (SPF) in them. Ironically, those same oils also provide absorbent moisture to the body as well. The beauty of making any DIY items yourself means that you are in complete control of your ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Organic Shea Butter
  • 1/3 cup Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1/3 heaping cup Local Raw Beeswax
  • 1/2 tsp Organic Red Raspberry Seed Oil

Instructions

Use a double boiler to melt the organic shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax together. Once melted, stir and add in the red raspberry seed oil. Pour into ChapStick containers or lip balm tins and allow to cool. When it becomes solid, you are able to enjoy!

Additional Tools

Again, these are not necessary but sometimes make the job easier.

  • Glass measuring cups (used as a double boiler in another pot with water)
  • Chapstick tubes
  • Lip balm tins
