This sourdough bread is mouthwatering and absolutely delicious! It will be the hit at any party. Moreover, it is simple and easy to create!

Why Sourdough?

The benefits of sourdough begin with the fermentation process. Fermentation aids in the body’s ability to properly digest and assimilate the nutrition found in food. In other words, you are getting the most bang for your buck health-wise.

Dough Ingredients

Filling Ingredients

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3/4 cup warmed milk
  • 1 Tbsp yeast
  • 1/4 cup butter – melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup organic raw sugar
  • 1 tsp real salt
  • 4 cups organic all-purpose flour
  • 4-5 apples that have been peeled and diced to desired consistency
  • 1 cup organic brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups organic powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp raw milk

Instructions

  1. Initially, we will be making the dough using a mixer by adding all of the ingredients except the flour. Once they are Incorportated add the flour one cup at a time. Using the dough hook attachment, allow the dough to mix for 5 minutes until it forms a smooth ball. Knead the dough on a floured surface into a ball formation. Once this is done, grease a bowl with butter and place your dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap or a towel and allow to rise.
  2. In the meantime, combine your brown sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.
  3. Once the dough has doubled in size (an hour or up to 4 later depending on the temperature inside your home) punch the dough down and dump it out onto your floured surface.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Split your dough into 2 portions as this recipe will create 2 loaf sized fritters.
  6. Roll out your dough and cut into square sized 2-inch portions.
  7. Then melt your butter.
  8. Grease your bread pans with butter. Layer the dough in the pan and brush butter over top of the dough. Add a layer of cinnamon sugar apples. Repeat with dough, butter and apples again and finish with a layer of dough and butter.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes.
  10. Allow the breads to cool some before mixing the glaze together and generously drizzling over top of the breads.
  11. Finally, enjoy!

Other Variations

  • As a final note, consider swapping out the apples for peaches, pears, or even a berry compote! The possibilities for deliciousness are endless!
